Thailand warns of tsunami in southern and eastern parts of the country

BANGKOK: Thailand’s Meteorological Department has warned of a possible tsunami risk from a major earthquake in the Philippines, especially in the southern and eastern parts of the Gulf of Thailand, according to a report by The Nation newspaper.

Located west of the Philippines in the South China Sea, the Manila Fault Line could carry a tsunami south towards the Philippines and weaken before reaching Thailand, possibly entering the Gulf of Thailand. The distance to the Gulf of Thailand is about 1,300-1,500 kilometers, and the arrival time of a tsunami in Thailand could be between 1.5 hours and 2 hours. The Thai coastal areas that could be affected include the provinces of Chonburi, Samut Prakan, Trat and Rayong.
