The Mazda EZ-60 is more than just a new crossover SUV; it signals a radical pivot for Mazda into the highly competitive electric vehicle (EV) segment, particularly within the crucial Chinese market. Developed through the Changan Mazda joint venture and based on the sophisticated Changan EPA1 platform, the EZ-60 is a large D-segment crossover poised to challenge rivals like the Tesla Model Y. Critically, this model is a global strategic vehicle, expected to be launched in international markets, including Europe, under the designation Mazda CX-6e.
Powertrain: A Dual-Strategy Approach
One of the EZ-60’s most defining features is its flexibility in powertrain options, offering a pure battery electric vehicle (BEV) and a range-extended electric vehicle (EREV). This dual strategy caters to different consumer needs, addressing both urban electric driving and long-distance travel anxiety.

Both variants utilize a powerful, rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) producing 190 kW (approximately 255 horsepower), ensuring spirited performance typical of RWD EVs. The vehicle’s chassis is tuned to uphold Mazda’s “Jinba-Ittai” driver-and-car-as-one philosophy, with the BEV version achieving a near-perfect 47:53 front-to-rear weight distribution.
The BEV model is equipped with a substantial 77.94 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery pack. This combination delivers an impressive CLTC (China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle) driving range of up to 600 kilometers (around 373 miles) on a single charge.

For drivers prioritizing maximum endurance, the EREV variant offers a compelling solution. It pairs the same powerful electric motor with a smaller 31.73 kWh LFP battery and a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine. Crucially, the gasoline engine acts solely as a generator—it does not directly power the wheels. This setup provides an estimated pure electric range of 160 to 200 kilometers, with the generator extending the total combined range to well over 1,000 kilometers (620 miles), effectively eliminating range anxiety.
Design and Practicality
Dimensionally, the EZ-60 is a significant presence. Measuring 4,850 mm long, 1,935 mm wide, and 1,620 mm tall with a generous 2,902 mm wheelbase, it offers considerable interior space. The exterior seamlessly integrates Mazda’s signature Kodo design language with EV necessities. It features a closed-off, body-colored grille accented by a distinctive light-up Mazda badge and slim running lights.

Aerodynamics is a key focus, evident in details like flush-fitting door handles, available electronic side-view mirrors, and unique aero ducts carved into the D-pillars. These features contribute to a remarkably low drag profile, which Mazda claims adds approximately 41 kilometers to the vehicle’s range. Practicality is enhanced by 549 liters of rear cargo space, expandable to over 2,000 liters with the rear seats folded, and a useful 126-liter front trunk (frunk) reserved for the BEV version.
A Radically Futuristic Cabin
The interior of the EZ-60 marks a drastic departure from Mazda’s traditional, minimalist cockpit philosophy, embracing a high-tech, futuristic aesthetic. The cabin is dominated by a massive, free-standing 26.45-inch 5K ultra-wide central touchscreen. This display handles virtually all control functions, including climate, navigation, and infotainment, leaving the dashboard nearly devoid of physical switchgear.
In lieu of a traditional instrument cluster, the EZ-60 relies heavily on its augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD). The standard 50-inch AR-HUD can be optionally upgraded to a cinematic 100-inch 3D AR-HUD, projecting navigation and safety information directly onto the windshield, creating a truly immersive driving experience.

Further luxury and technology highlights include “zero-gravity” front seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions, premium upholstery, and an optional 23-speaker audio system with support for Dolby Atmos surround sound. The vehicle is also equipped with a comprehensive Level 2 Advanced Driver-Assistance System (ADAS) suite, utilizing an array of cameras and radars to provide advanced safety features like adaptive cruise control and navigation assistance.
Market Position
Launched in China in September 2025, the EZ-60 has been priced aggressively, with EREV variants starting from approximately RMB 119,900 (around $16,810 USD) and the BEV versions starting from around RMB 150,900. This highly competitive pricing, coupled with its advanced technology and dual-powertrain offering, positions the EZ-60 as a strong contender in the electrified mid-size SUV segment both in China and as it expands globally under the CX-6e badge in 2026.
